About the Role

In your role you will:

  • Provide legal advice and support in relation to Swiss Re's business strategy with a special focus on the Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) group, which has a group-wide mandate for activities related to insurance-linked securities, hedging and capital efficiency

  • Support a variety of bespoke transactions which may involve capital markets touchpoints during structuring, negotiation and implementation

  • Analyze and advise on legal and regulatory matters as they apply to the group's ACP activities and the development and structuring of bespoke business transactions

  • Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence; review, draft and negotiate deal documentation; instruct and manage outside counsel (as needed)

  • Work closely with a diverse group of structurers, marketers, underwriters, actuaries and other cross-functional colleagues and facilitate international coordination of legal/regulatory issues

  • Foster and maintain strong and positive working relationships with international clients, colleagues and outside law firms

  • Provide legal support for new product development and related transactions especially with regard to the group's ACP activities, as needed

  • Support internal group projects and strategic initiatives, as needed

  • Conduct and/or arrange internal presentations and trainings on legal topics

  • Monitor legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a team of lawyers reporting to the Head Transactions & Solutions in Legal Reinsurance EMEA. We are a group of passionate, and business-oriented legal advisors, apt at operating in a global organization and culturally diverse environment. We work closely with transaction lawyers in Americas and Asia to provide our business clients access to our legal and compliance expertise globally to advance our business strategy.

 

About You

 

Qualification and Experience

 

We are looking for you if you:

  • Are a fully qualified Swiss lawyer (bar exam)

  • Have a minimum of three years post qualified experience, with a law firm or in-house in an international financial institution or in the insurance industry; experience in M&A, finance or capital markets or business transactions would be considered as a plus

  • Understand transactional, regulatory or licensing topics and practices from a Swiss law perspective as well as in cross-border scenarios

  • Have a strong interest in understanding new concepts

  • Speak and write in English fluently, other languages are a plus

  • Enjoy learning from colleagues as well as working independently with an ability to handle multiple requests

  • Provide high-quality, timely client service that is balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of the firm

  • Are a strong communicator (written and verbal) and adopt a pragmatic, solutions-oriented, consultative approach to problem-solving

  • You identify and report legal, regulatory and reputational risks, provide professional advice, expertise and guidance, and apply sound judgement beyond the dimensions of laws and regulations

  • You are a trusted business partner, who develops relationships and communicates legal concepts clearly and succinctly

  • You possess excellent drafting, negotiation, influencing and legal project management skills

  • You have a curiosity and willingness to learn new areas

  • You openly share assumptions, beliefs, values and thought process in reaching conclusions and are self-reflective and collaborative

  • You take accountability for progress and/or outcomes, apply a measured appetite for risk, and plan ahead to deliver workable solutions

  • Some travel may be required
