ARIS (Akademische Raumfahrt Initiative Schweiz) is a student organization founded in 2017 with the goal to bring students together that share a passion for space related technologies. ARIS currently consists of about 60 students with backgrounds mainly in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich, but is completed by students from different backgrounds like electrical engineering, materials science and management from ETH, HSLU and ZHAW.

Our project "HEIDI"​ is to build our own sounding rocket to participate at the Spaceport America Cup in Summer 2019. This is an annually rocketry competition where solid, liquid and hybrid rockets are designed, built and tested by groups of students from all over the world. These rockets will be launched targeting altitudes of up to 30,000 feet and will compete against each other in various categories.

Our aim is to face this technical challenge and provide an exceptional design that will innovatively push forward the limits of technology. This project will enable us to apply our theoretical knowledge and to benefit from the interaction with other students and our Swiss industrial partners that support us throughout our journey.
