The Inter-Community School (ICS) is one of the preeminent international schools in Switzerland located in a purpose-built campus in beautiful Zumikon. ICS is an independent, co-educational day school and operates as a non-profit Foundation governed by a Board of Trustees. As the only School in Zurich fully authorized by the International Baccalaureate to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, Middle Years and IB Diploma Programmes, ICS currently has an enrolment of 820 students, age 18 months -19 years, representing 48 countries. Instruction is conducted in English and students also learn German.

The Safeguarding, Compliance & Accreditation Officer is committed to the mission and the aims of the Inter-Community School, Zurich. Providing efficient, effective, and productive support to the Leadership Team as it relates to compliance and regulatory responsibilities. Responsible for maintaining the register of school policies, arranging training, scheduling whole-school professional development, and for updating and ensuring required documentation is relevant, accurate and implemented, the Safeguarding and Compliance Officer will support the School in ensuring it is best practice in all matters pertaining to legislative and policy responsibilities. 

The successful candidate must be a multi-tasker, capable of balancing both long and short-term projects with, at times, competing and conflicting levels of priority. As the School embarks on its mission, and in a year of accreditation, this position is fundamental to the organization and its determination to exceed expectation across all areas, but more importantly, to ensure that the mechanisms designed to protect the ICS community, in their learning and in their lives are robust and resolute. 

Working closely with the Head of School, the Safeguarding, Compliance and Accreditation Officer will be a confident communicator, capable of presenting to the whole-school and working in small groups to train staff in policy implementation and understanding. 

Responsibilities
  • Develop a cyclical calendar of policy revisions and required updates
  • Create a schedule for whole-school policy training and development
  • Identify areas for school improvement, and in conjunction with the Leadership Team, refine policies accordingly
  • Research best practice across the education sector; particularly in relation to child safety and wellbeing 
  • Present at whole-school staff meetings on policy advancements and developments
  • Prepare documentation for parents regarding school policy and processes
  • Identify and engage with external providers who could add meaningfully to the school’s teacher training programs
  • Ensure timely and accurate information is provided to the Head of School relating to the policies and procedures in place
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to identify areas for improvement specific to their responsibilities within the School i.e. facilities, sports, science, art, third-party providers.

Requirements
  • Qualifications in Business/Office Administration or Policy Development and implementation 
  • Outstanding communication skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English and German and spoken Swiss-German (preferred)
  • Experience in an Educational Environment (preferred)
  • Exceptional organizational skills 
  • High-level problem-solving skills with demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to fast paced environments 
  • Exceptional time management skills, knowing what, when and how to communicate, depending on audience and subject matter
  • Maintain an exceptional level of professionalism
  • Genuine interest in policy writing and implementation 
  • Detailed understanding of governance legislation and procedures; 
  • Awareness of developments in the education sector as they relate to policy
  • Proactive and disciplined approach to sourcing information that will assist the School in maintaining best practice across all areas of the School.
