• We are seeking an experienced and people-focused leader to manage our Reconciliations team and ensure the effective delivery of balance sheet reconciliations across the business
• This role is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end reconciliation process, ensuring strong financial controls, timely resolution of reconciling items and the maintenance of accurate accounting records. You'll lead a high-performing team, build strong stakeholder relationships and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, strengthen controls and support business objectives

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and develop the Reconciliations team, ensuring reconciliations are completed accurately, consistently and within agreed deadlines
• Oversee the end-to-end reconciliation process, including review, sign-off, issue management and evidence retention
• Drive the investigation, resolution and escalation of reconciling items, balance sheet breaks and control issues
• Maintain robust supporting documentation, audit trails and accounting records in line with governance and audit requirements
• Produce and analyse management information relating to reconciliation performance, outstanding items, risks and control exceptions
• Build strong relationships with Finance, Operations, Risk, Compliance and other business areas to resolve issues and strengthen controls
• Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation, evidence and responses to audit queries
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, increase automation and enhance operational effectiveness
• Manage, coach and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement

Skills, knowledge & experience:

• Technical skills:
• Proven experience leading and developing teams within a finance, reconciliation, accounting or operational environment
• Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls, audit requirements and governance frameworks
• Minimum five years' experience within financial services, finance operations, accounting or another regulated environment
• Experience in life and pensions, international life assurance, fund accounting or reconciliations would be advantageous
• Demonstrated experience of driving process improvement, change initiatives and control enhancements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues effectively
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to adapt to new systems and technologies
• Passionate about developing people through coaching, mentoring and support
• Collaborative and able to build productive relationships across the business
• Proactive in identifying risks, opportunities and improvements
• Able to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail and delivery
• Organised and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
