The Vetsuisse Faculty Zurich offers a four-year Small Animal Surgery Residency position starting January 1st, 2027. The residency program is well supervised by five ECVS/ACVS surgeons and is structured to provide comprehensive training in all required areas of small animal surgery including orthopedics, soft tissue, and surgical emergency service, to prepare the resident for examination for diplomate status. In addition, the Resident will participate in the emergency surgical on call rotation with the backup of faculty. Weekly teaching rounds, journal club and book club are organized and joined by the faculty. The Resident will be involved in teaching students and interns. Guidance and support for participation in high-quality scientific research will be provided.

The Vetsuisse Faculty is one of the best centers for veterinary education and research in Europe. The Zurich Small Animal Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary facility equipped with the most advanced equipment including biplanar fluoroscopy, 3 Tesla MRI, 16 slices CT scan, radiation therapy, minimally invasive equipment to perform laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and arthroscopy at the highest technical standard, force triad, advanced bipolar diathermy among others and a variety of implant systems for fracture fixation and joint replacement.

The residency program in Zurich has high standards of surgical training with a successful track record of passing the ECVS board exam.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our team. Applicants are expected to have completed a rotating small animal Internship or an equivalent of two years in private practice. We are referring to the ECVS requirements to enroll in a surgical training program. A strong academic record with previous surgical and clinical research experience is desirable.

The applicant is expected to speak and understand German at B1 level. Applicants with proficient German will be preferred.
