Job description:

• Design and implement production-ready data pipelines using PySpark on Databricks
• Work from specifications provided by Business Analysts
• Collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Solution Architects
• Ensure solutions meet both functional and non-functional requirements
• Developing applications using an IDE such as VS Code or PyCharm

About the customer:

We are seeking for an seasoned Senior Data Engineer to join an exciting project at one of global leading re/insurance company in Zurich on a 12-month contract.

• Start: April/May 2026
• Duration: 12 monthly, very likely to extend (intial project goes until 2028)
• Location: Zurich
• Hybrid: 3 days/week in the Office

Your team:

Team of 12 people, including the Product Owner, 4 Business analysts and 7 engineers, most of them are in Zurich, others in Italy.

Top 3 must-have skills

1. PySpark (Python alone is not enough - Spark is essential)
2. Databricks & Delta Lake
3. Azure fundamentals

Requirements:

• Min. 5 years of experience as Data Engineer developing complex software systems
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science (or related field)
• Strong software engineering mindset (design patterns, best practices, clean code)
• Solid background in data engineering and analytical frameworks
• Strong core Python software engineering experience
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with modern data platforms
• Experience of working with delta lakes and optimizing Spark workloads running on it.
• Have a good understanding and significant experience with projects using relational data models and SQL.
